Sony PlayStation
2005 - 2011
Associate Web Designer, PlayStation Network
Sony Dash
Being the sole designer for us.playstation.com, it afforded me many opportunities to work on a variety of digital projects. Sony Dash is an example of this variety.
I was asked to develop a PlayStation channel that would appear on the Sony Dash interface. This channel had to embody the PlayStation brand and support the basic requirements from users interested in our gaming products. I was given the timeline of two hours to complete this project.
Meet with stakeholder to understand interface requirements and restrictions
Design interface and visual skin to embody PlayStation branding
Run approval process with stakeholders and legal department
Work with development team to communicate user experience requirements and hand off assets
Sony.com
The Sony.com website was a huge co-marketing opportunity for PlayStation products. With highly visible marquee placement, strong corporate brand, and a few extra million views a week, it was a no-brainer for us to collaborate with the sony.com team to develop features of PlayStation.
Coordinate with internal and external product marketing groups to understand marketing strategy and timelines
Develop content strategy and schedule of features
Collect assets needed for banners & design banners
Collect stats for banners and share with respective Product Marketing teams
PlayStation Shop
The project was commissioned by management as a means to develop a revenue generating outlet on us.playstation.com. An aggressive timeline of four months (from conception to launch) was closely adhered to. I managed and designed the site, Facebook commerce and all merchandise such as glassware, t-shirts, and digital downloads. After leaving Sony, the storefront never surfaced on the site.
Define user requirements and collaborate with the development team to resolve potential technological hurdles
Architect user flows and check out process
Design merchandise offerings for launch of e-commerce project (t-shirts, glassware, laptop skins, posters)
Create banners for all landing pages within the PlayStation Shop
Engage with Product Marketing to gain department support and product design approvals
Develop process for merchandise submission requests
Created a design guideline for future partner merchandise design vendors
Liaison between the Legal team and PlayStation Network team to ensure compliance
Collaborate with Licensing department to define and initiate merchandise design process
Community Forum Re-design
In late 2010, an executive decision was made to change the platform on which the PlayStation Forums lived. The aim of this project was to offer PlayStation Forum loyalists a platform that could technologically support their requests and develop stronger software brand support within the PlayStation Community Forums.
Editor of the communication plan
Developed design templates for design vendors who could skin their own software specific forum
Create information architecture for forum 'spaces' update
Redesign Community Forum homepage to improve usability
Design banners that would appear on each forum space
PlayStation Portal
Key marketing on the PlayStation 3 aside from the PlayStation Store, is through the web portal. (The page users see when they select the Internet Browser on the XMB) and on the What's New icon on the XMB. I designed the portal banners that appeared in both of these locations.
Develop schedules for delivery and implementation
Manage stakeholder reviews and approvals (Product Marketing and Legal departments)
Design visually engaging banners to increase brand visibility and click through
QA implementation of banners
Gran Turismo Awards
Gran Turismo Awards is an annual competition that invites car fanatics and industry leaders to enter and vote for their favorite custom vehicles. Winners of the competition have their car rendered and featured in Gran Turismo as a playable vehicle add-on. I was asked to design the marketing website in 2006. Product Marketing asked me to work on the website again in 2007 and 2008. I designed the site, coded, incorporated to our CMS and performed QA.
